What effect do drugs have on your appetite?
- Amphetamines- effects caused by blocking the uptake of catecholamine, decreased appetite, delayed onset of hunger, tolerance
- Cocaine- loss of appetite
- Codeine and Methadone- loss of appetite with chronic use
- Marijuana- usually enhances appetite, can lose weight and appetite

- Prescribed medications- barbiturates, amphetamines used for pleasure or mind altering effects
- Drugs create- nutritional problems from a poor intake of food or by depletion of money to buy food
- Alcoholic Liver Disease- in the U.S. is one of the top 10 leading causes of death among persons at ages 25 to 64
- can affect- endocrine, digestive, cardiac, central nervous, intestinal, hepatic, musculoskeletal system
- Detox of drugs- based on individual needs but increase fluids, calories and carbohydrates as are tolerated
- small frequent meal and fluids
- megadoses- of vitamins and minerals can be toxic
