What is it?

  • Cephalosporins- Antibiotics causing Cell Death
  • Used For- Treatment of Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, Respiratory Infections, UTI/Urinary Tract Infection, Gonorrhea, Septicemia, Meningitis, Bone and Joint Infections, Preoperative Prophylaxis

Side Effects

  • Dizziness, Headaches, Seizures, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Loss of Appetite, Stomach Pain/Upset, Colitis, Liver Toxicity, Kidney Toxicity, Rash, Fever, Difficulty Breathing, Unusual Bleeding or Bruising; Decreases- White Blood Cells, Platelets, Hemocrit, Bone Marrow

What can I do?

  • See a Health Care Provider- as needed
  • See your Pharmacist- for help; Liquid Drug with Children; if Crushed has a Bitter and Unpleasant Taste; Swallow Tablet Whole
  • AVOID- if Allergic to Cephalosporins, Alcohol, Lactation, Pregnancy, Aminoglycosides, Anticoagulants, Benedict’s or Fehling’s Solution
  • See a Food Fitness First Registered Dietitian-Take with Food/Small, Frequent Meals, Increase Fluids
