Illegal Drug Abuse
Drug Addiction:
- Mood Altering Substances- alcohol, hallucinogenic mushrooms; mind altering activity; physical or phycological dependence; to induce pleasure, relieve tension, pain, or anxiety, euporia or mood changes; increased physical and mental ability providing an edge on others, altered sense perception
- Uncontrolled- very powerful, difficult to overcome, affects the central nervous system; people may lie, steal, and manipulate others; goal is to increase the dose for the original fix or effect that was achieved with a smaller dose; experimental or recreational use
- Controlled-STOP
Facts:
- Drug Abuse- dysfunctional behavior
- Cancer Patients- even with high doses never become addicts but are physically dependent
- Addictive Personality- low self esteem, easily frustrated, difficulty solving personal problems, immature, hard to relate to opposite sex; others are suicidal, self-inflicted injuries, dependent
- Socioeconomic Groups- affects all uneducated and unemployed to the rich and famous who are highly educated and professional<
Should Not use Illegal Drugs
- Withdrawal- diarrhea, tremors/shaking, headache
- Depressants- downers are alcohol, narcotics, sleeping pills, antianxiety drugs, inhalants, volatile nitrite
- Stimulants- cocaine, amphetamines, speed, MDMA, Ecstacy, Adam, DOM, STP, PCP, Angel Dust
- Hallucinogens- marijuana, LSD, Mescaline, Psilocybin
