  • Avoid- all breaded or creamed meats, sausage, luncheon meats, frankfurters, some brands of powdered eggs and egg substitute, cheeses, aged cheeses, pizza, burritos, tacos, meat casseroles, deli meats, hotdogs, processed meats, cheese spreads

Breads and Starches

  • Water based breads as Jewish Rye, French and Italian; popcorn, rice cakes, rusks, graham crackers, cooked cereals, dry cereals without added milk, rice, oats, pasta, barley, cornmeal, bulgar, plain grains
  • Avoid- cornbread, rolls, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, sweet rolls, crackers, instant and dry cereals with added milk, packaged macaroni mixes, saltines, whole grain crackers, instant mashed potatoes, muffins

Fruits

  • Fresh, Frozen, Canned or Dried
  • Avoid- Fruit smoothies made with yogurt, dietetic fruits

  • Avoid- creamed, breaded, packaged dry mixes, sauces with cheese

Milk & Dairy

  • 100% Lactose-Free Milk, Soy Milk
  • Avoid- whole, 1%, 2%, skim, butter, lactosereduced milk, sweet acidophilus milk, evaporated milk, sweeten condensed milk, instant cocoa mixes, instant hot chocolate mixes, milk powder, milk protein, milk solids, nonfat dry milk, whey, whey solids, whey protein, ricotta cheese, malted milk, Kefir cultured milk, reduced lactose milk, yogurt with or without live cultures, cottage cheese, cream, dry milk curd

Sweets & Desserts

  • Hard Candy, gum drops, jelly beans, licorice, popsicles, fruit roll ups, fruit pie fillings, sorbets
  • Avoid- ice cream, ice milk, some brands of sherbet, caramel, butterscotch, toffee, milk chocolate, mousse, custard, pudding, soufflé, pies, cakes, cream or cheese filled pastries, fudge, coated chocolates and candies, toffee

  • Butter, bacon, bacon drippings, margarine without whey, vegetable oils, olives, olive oil, canola oil, seeds, nuts, salad dressings made without milk or cheese, most nondairy creamers, gravies and sauces made without milk or milk products, shortening, vinegar and oil salad dressing, vinaigrette salad dressing
  • Avoid- half and half, cream, cream cheese, sour cream, whipped toppings, salad dressings with milk or cheese, whipped cream, white sauces and gravies

Beverage Group

  • Postum, supplements as Nutren, Glucerna, Ensure, Sustacal, Optimental; fruit juices, vegetable juices, tea, carbonated drinks, wine, beer, distilled spirits as rum, gin, scotch; most coffee, cocoa powder, rice milk drinks, soy milks, lactose free milk
  • Avoid- instant ice tea, instant coffee, chocolate drink mixes, Ovaltine™, Carnation Instant Breakfast™, cordials, liqueurs

Soup Group

  • Broth, bouillon, consommé, vegetable or meat stock, all soups made with water, soy milk or 100% lactose-free milk; gravies or sauces made with water
  • Avoid- cream soups, dehydrated and canned soups containing milk, chowders

Miscellaneous Group

  • Pretzels, popcorn, plain or corn chips, salsa, ketchup, mustard, pickles, horseradish, relish, sugar, honey, jam, jelly, preserves, maple syrup, corn syrup, molasses, herbs, salt, pepper; plain herbs and spices, powdered sweeteners
  • Avoid- cream or cheese sauces, cheese curls, any food made with cheese or milk, medications, vitamins or minerals with lactose added, sugar substitute
