What is it used for?
Treatment of- Wounds, Mouth Sores, Sore Throat, Diarrhea, Gout,
Impotence, Kidney Problems, Urinary Incontinence, Bleeding Gums,
Smooth Burns and Scalds, Fever, Ulcers, Hemorrhoids, Gonorrhea, Vaginal
Discharges, Menstrual Cramps, Management of Diabetes
Key Indicators/Explanations:
Wounds- Constricts Blood Vessels to Stop Bleeding
Diarrhea- Treatment for Diarrhea and Dysentery (High Tannin Content)
Hemorrhoids- Soak a clean cloth in a strong infusion and apply externally
Mouth Sores, Sore Throat- Astringent Tannins
Recommend:
Infusion- 2 t. of dried leaves with 1 cup boiling water, steep 15 minutes, add
1 T. of Milk, drink up to 3 cups per day
Infusion- 1/2 cup crushed Blackberries (Fresh or Dried) with 2 t. dried
powdered bark (root)
Decoction- 1 t. powdered root with 1 up boiling water, boil for 30 minutes,
drink up to 1 cup per day, add 1-2 T. of Milk
Commercial Preparation- Use as Directed on packaging
Wounds/Hemorrhoids- soak a clean cloth in a strong infusion and apply
externally
Avoid- in Children under 2, for others start with a Low Strength and Increase
as Tolerated
Large Amounts of Tannins- can cause Stomach Distress, Nausea, Vomiting
Adding Milk- Neutralizes the Tannins
