*Family- Caprifoliaceae, Honeysuckle, Elder; also known as Viburnum
*Black Haw- is grown in the North and is a spreading Shrub with
Reddish-Brown Bark
What is it used for?
*Shrub- Native American drank for Menstrual Cramps, Childbirth Recovery,
to Prevent Miscarriage
*Remedy- for Menopause, Fever, Headache, Arthritis, Other Pain
Key Indicators/Explanations:
*Scopoetin- contains a Uterine Relaxant to treat Menstrual Cramps
*Salicin- another ingredient which is a close chemical relative to aspirin
-Aspirin- has been linked to Birth Defects
Signs and Symptoms:
*Large Doses- promote an upset Stomach, Ringing in the Ears/Tinnitus, Nausea,
Vomiting, especially if sensitive to Aspirin
Recommend:
*Bark- 2 t. per cup of water, boil 10-12 Minutes, may drink up to 3 cups/Day
-Taste- Bitter, may want to take with Sugar, Lemon, and Honey
*Tincture- 2 t. 3 times a day
*AVOID- if Pregnant, under 16 years of age
(can increase the risk of Reye’s Syndrome- a Rare but Fatal Childhood Disease)
