What is it used for?
Colds- reduce symptoms, duration of colds, flu
Abscesses, burns, colon cancer, sin inflammation (eczema), liver
cancer, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection,
varicose leg ulcers, decubitus or skin wounds or pressure ulcers
Signs and Symptoms
Allergic reaction- sensitive to plants in the daisy family
Recommend
Not effective for preventing disease
Recommended- short term use
Children (large trial)- failed to help with respiratory infection
Do not mix- can cause drug interaction
Do not use for > 8 weeks
Not recommended for patients with- Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid
Arthritis, AIDS, Lupus, Tuberculosis, Collagen Disease
o Immune system suppressed
AVOID- if pregnant, breast feeding
What can I do?
Extracted from- dried roots, rhizomes, underground stems, fresh
juice of the roots, native to North America
Tablets, capsules, hydroalcoholic extracts, fresh pressed juice,
glycerite, lozenges, tinctures
Don’t use more than 8 weeks
Studies- show more upper respiratory tract infection, ineffective in
treatment
