What is used for?
*Anxiety, aphrodisiac, halitosis (bad breath), chronic nervous disorders,
depression, diarrhea, digestive tract/gastrointestinal disorders, stomach problems,
indigestion, kidney disorders, toothache, to stop vomiting
*Spice- food, drinks, fragrance in soaps and cosmetics
trees grow- West Indies, Molucca Islands, Sri Lanka
Information:
*People have died- eating too much nutmeg, > 5 grams
*Common doses- 200 mg. capsules, essential oils, powders
-dangerous zone for nutmeg-
-gastric upset/nausea- 1-2 capsules oral or 2-3 drops of oil in honey or with sugar
-chronic diarrhea- 4-6 Tablespoons of powder, oral
-toothache- rub 1-2 drops of oil on the gum
Signs and Symptoms:
*Delusions, disorientation, hallucinations, sense of well being, confusion,
constipation, dry mouth, flushing, nausea, rapid pulse, stupor, vomiting,
hypothermia, feeling of pressure on the chest or abdomen, giddiness, psychosis
*Miscarriage, abortion, seizure, death
Recommend:
*AVOID- if pregnant, breast feeding, for any psychiatric problems, children,
pets, other drugs/medications
*AVOID- taking with alcohol (ETOH), hazardous driving/activities,
-Haldol, Clozaril, Navane, Zyprexa
