*1870- Turmeric was discovered by chemist to change from Orange-Yellow to
Reddish Brown when exposed to Alkaline Chemicals, this lead to the development of
Tumeric Paper
-19th Century- used to Test for Alkalinity
*Grown- from India to Indonesia, grows about 3 Feet, Perennial, Pulpy,
Orange, Tuberous Roots that grow about 2 Feet in Length, Large Lilylike Leaves,
Thick, Squat, Central Flower Spike, Funnel-shaped Yellow Flowers
*Other Names- Curry, Curcuma, a Member of the Ginger Family
What is it used for?
*Used for- Aids Digestion, may Fight Intestinal Parasites, may Protect the Liver,
may Protect Heart Disease, may one day play a role in the Treatment of Cancer,
a Cleansing Herb for the Whole Body, Fever, Infections, Dysentery, Arthritis,
Jaundice, Liver Problems, Gallbladder Problems, Stop Bleeding, Chest Congestion,
Menstrual Discomforts, to make Orange-Yellow Dyes, Healing, Helps Retard Food
Spoilage (has antibacterial action), Wound Inflammation, Anti-Inflammatory,
may Help Reduce Cholesterol, helps to Prevent Blood Clots, Stimulates
Menstruation, may Reduce Fertility
*AVOID- in Children under Age 2, Over 65 Years of Age use a small amounts and
increase as tolerated, if a Blood Clotting Problem, Pregnancy, Lactating, if on
Anticoagulant Medications
*Large Doses- may cause an Upset Stomach, Heartburn

*Infusion- 1 t. Turmeric Powder per 1 cup of Warm Milk up to 3 cups/Day
