- (T) Tetracycline- (Sumycin, Achromycin-V, Tetracyn), Doxycycline (vibramycin, VibraTabs, Doryx, achromycin, minocin), Declomycin, Sumycin, Vibramycin
- (M) Metronidazole- (flagyl)
- (C) Colchicine
Effect of Medication on Nutritional Status
- (E)−Take with food- delays absorption
- (Α)−Alters taste
- (Τ)−Tetracycline/Arhromycin- avoid antacids, iron supplements and food high in calcium 1 hour before taking medication See FFF Calcium Rich Foods-milk, dairy, cheeses, yogurt, cream, ice cream, buttermilk, waffles, pizza, almonds *Calcium rich foods help ease indigestion but reduce it’s effectiveness and can cause severe infection
- (M)-Metallic taste, decreases appetite
- (C)-May decrease absorption- Carotene, fat, lactose, protein, potassium, sodium, Vitamin B12; may cause anorexia, diarrhea
Medication Intake:
- (E)−Take on an empty stomach
- (Α)−Avoid acidic foods, caffeine, fruit juices, vinegar, citrus fruits (fruits with sections), pickles, colas, tomatoes when taking medication, take on an empty stomach one hour before or 2 hours after a meal. These sensitive antibiotics are destroyed in the stomach acid created by these foods.
- (T)-Take on an empty stomach, may take doxycycline with food if upsets stomach one hour before or two hours after meals
- (M)-Take with food
- (C)-Take with food, monitor weights add supplement if needed
