What is it?
*Rare inherited metabolic disorder
*Usually affects- boys by the age of 7, young adults in their 20’s
*More common in men
*Inherited from mother’s gene
*Adrenomyeloneuropathy- affects adolescent boys
Signs and Symptoms:
*Abnormal adrenal gland function
*Eventually mental state declines
-blind
-spastic
*Weakness of the legs
-impaired bladder and bowel function
What can I do?
*NO CURE IS KNOWN
*Add dietary supplements
-with glycerol trioleate and glycerol trierucate (Lorenzo’s oil) which
improves blood’s fatty acid composition
*Not to improve the disease’s course
*Bone marrow transplantation- experimental treatment
