What are the requirements per day?
*Calories - First Week - 50-100 kcal/kg.; Active Growth - 110-150; > 2 years -80
*Carbohydrates - First Week - 7-12 gm/kg./day; Active Growth - 12-15
*Protein - First 2 Weeks - 2 gm./kg./Day; > 2 years - 1.75 grams/day
*Fat - First Week - 3-4 gm./kg.; Active Growth - 5-8 gm/kg. - 40% total calories
*Fluid - First Week - 80-120 cc/kg.; Active Growth - 120-200 cc/kg/day
*Sodium (Na+) - 1 to 1.5 grams per day
*Potassium (K+) - 2 grams/day
Example for 2-6 Years of age for a Day:
*Calories - 1200 - 1500 depending on height/bones/activity level
*Protein - 50-60 grams
*Carbohydrates- 140-160 grams
*Vitamin A - 5000-6000 I.U.
*Vitamin C - 100-110 mg.
*Thiamin (B1) - .70-.75 mg.
*Riboflavin (B2) - 1.5-1.7 mg.
*Niacin (B3) - 8-10 mg.
*Calcium (Ca) - 1000-1200 mg.
*Phosphorus (PO4) - 1000-1200 mg.
*Iron (Fe) - 6.0-6.5 mg.
What can I do?
*3 Nutritious Meals and Snacks daily
*See Physician monthly or as needed
*Have Registered Dietitian or Physician keep a check on height/weight and
food intake of the child to make sure growth rate is correct
