What is it?
*A chronic disorder
*Lead poisoning from food or lead- at risk for learning disabilities and
growth problems for infants and young children
*Can cause serious problems in adults
*If lead pipes let the cold water run for a few minutes before using
Where do you find lead?
*Old paint
*Water pipes
*Acidic Foods and Beverages stored in lead-glazed ceramic ware or glasses
*Inhaling fumes of leaded gasoline
*Lead contaminated dust and soil
What are the Symptoms?
*Progressive kidney disease in adults
*Intellectual deficits in children
*Headaches, metallic taste in mouth, poor appetite, abdominal discomfort,
vomiting, constipation in adults
*Forceful vomiting, uncoordinated walking, seizures, coma, brain damage in
children
What do I need to do?
*Make sure there is no paint peeling
*Keep infants, children and geriatrics away from remodeling or refinishing
*Have child tested at 1 year of age
*Call your local health department for more information
