Feeding Tips-Toddlers

9 Remember messes will be made.
9 Present food in a positive manner.
9 Seat child securely.
9 Provide safe foods in front of child.
9 Allow them to feed themselves as appropriate.
9 Eat with your child at the table.
9 Provide help when needed.
9 Set limits.
9 Do not over feed- let them decide when they are done eating.
9 Remove the bottle by one year.
Quick and Kid-Friendly Meals
Plan your meals in advance. When buying your groceries, make a
list. This saves time and money. It also relieves stress during the
week because you already have an idea of your family’s meal.
Foods you may want to include (Finger Foods):
♦ Soups with Crackers
♦ Small Sandwiches
♦ Tuna Salad, Crackers, and Fruit
♦ Noodles with Vegetables
♦ Macaroni & Cheese
♦ Yogurt or Smoothies
♦ Graham Crackers, Animal Crackers
♦ Applesauce
♦ Vegetables with Dressing or Cheese Sauce
Foods you may not want to include to prevent choking:
♦ Whole Hotdogs or Vienna Sausage
♦ Candy
♦ Popcorn
♦ Sliced raw Carrots
♦ Peanut Butter (not recommended until after 2 years old)
How much should my 1-2 year old eat?
Food: Serving size: Number of Servings Daily:
Whole Milk 4 oz milk & yogurt 4
1/3 c cheese
Vegetables 1-2 Tablespoons 3
Fruits 1-2 Tablespoons 2
Meat 1-1 ½ oz. 2
1/3 c dried peas/beans
Breads & Grains ½ slice bread 6
¼ c dry cereal
¼ c cooked pasta/rice
¼ c oatmeal/cream of wheat
*Drink- Whole Milk until 2 years of age
-Brain- still developing, needs fat to grow
*AVOID- LOW FAT FOODS until after age 2 years of age
