Usual Regain of Weight- in 3 years called weight cycling
Facts:
Calories- must consume fewer calories; weight x 12 = calories to maintain
weight if no exercise, x 14 if moderate exercise for 30 minutes per day and
x 16 if exercise > 1 hour per day to maintain weight
o 3,500 Calories- is 1 lb. of weight so if decrease 500 calories per day
them will decease 1 lb. per week
Methods for Weight Loss- self-help from books or other sources, nonclinical programs who are not licensed or educated to help with weight
loss, and licensed individuals who are educated to help with weight loss
Behavior Modification- making permanent changes in eating and exercise;
safe, simple, gradual changes to increase high fiber foods/complex
carbohydrates and to decrease simple sugars and high fat foods
What can I do?
See your Health Care Provider- about weight loss, Gastric Bypass if severe
obesity
o Gastric Bypass Complications- 10% develop complications, < 1% die

Diet- Increase fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, dried peas and
beans, legumes, choose chicken and fish over steak, bacon, and cured ham
AVOID- fried foods, rich casseroles, whole milk, sauces, gravies, rich
desserts as chocolate delight, banana split cake, ice cream, homemade
cakes with icing, brownie with icing, lemon meringue pie, rich cookies and
puddings
