Class Eleven - Medications

Medicine can be a wonderful tool to help someone heal from a sickness. Medicine can cure pains and aches and many, many other problems. Yet for all the good medicine can do, there are some special situations that can happen when taking medicine that can cause you to become very sick. This is called a drug interaction.

Drugs can interact with many things but one of the most common is the food we eat. Some drugs speed up the rate the body uses certain vitamins and minerals while other drugs slow this rate down. On the other hand, certain foods may slow down or speed up the rate at which the body is able to use the drug. Two well-known food drug interactions involve foods containing vitamin K and grapefruit.
